As being a school that is high you need to also plan the barrage of concerns you will likely face regarding the future college plans. Never let these relevant questions catch you by surprise. Continue reading to find out the types of questions friends and families love to ask over the holiday breaks.
1. How are those college applications coming along? Are you all done?
Ideally, your response is a relieved yes! We constantly recommend that students complete their apps before christmas in order that they can in fact enjoy their break. But don’t worry if you’re not done at this time. The most important thing is that you turn them in before the deadline.
2. Just What colleges are you currently applying to? Why aren’t you deciding on xyz college?
School pride is really a great thing, but don’t ever allow some body stress you into applying to a college simply because they went there (even Uncle Tim). Colleges come in all sizes and locations, and one size definitely does maybe not fit all. Do your research, and stick to an inventory which makes feeling for you.
3. What exactly are you likely to study?
The short response is you do not know yet. Even in the event that you’ve been admitted currently the odds are fairly likely which you will change the mind, maybe even before starting college. Like the past question, friends and family members love to weigh in when it comes to list of positive actions with your life. While advice is great, be certain to get the fit that is best for you.
4. What exactly are you going doing with that degree?
Maintaining using the theme that family and friends always thinking they know best, you should never allow someone make you feel bad in what you desire to pursue. Do not get me wrong, it’s important to truly have a have a plan and set goals, you will most likely be more successful in the event that you pursue something you actually enjoy.
5. Did you hear so and so got in early to…?
This is 2015. With social media, everyone else typically understands each other’s college decisions minutes after their peers are notified. Do not let college choices get under the skin or cause a riff in the middle of your buddies. Classmates will inevitably brag or gloat, but don’t allow it cause you to lose your cool.
Mythbuster: I’m enthusiastic about Business, but i am using as Undecided because that will give me a better shot at Admission
The Myth: It’s easier to get in as undecided than an important in a school that is professional.
The Verdict: Not at USC.
Of all of the myths we’ll talk about this year, I’m pretty sure here is the one I face the many as an admission professional. I’ve lost count of how many students come up to me after an event or high school visit and say something like, ‘The possibilities in the Marshall class of Business are perfect. I want to learn business at USC, but i am thinking of applying as undecided since Marshall is super competitive.’
Yes, Marshall is competitive. So are engineering, communication, music, undecided, and every major at USC. The general admission process is highly selective, and students will not be at an advantage if they apply undecided. In fact, it is in students’s best interest to apply for their major of choice if they understand what they wish to study in university. Pupils at USC get going within their major right away and are able to make the most of their program’s resources in their very first semester on campus.
The USC Writing Supplement on the Common Application permits students to list a first and second choice major. Students will be considered for shmoop.pro their top choice first, and in cases where a student is not found a fit for that major, they will be looked at for their second choice major as well as undecided. We evaluate a pupil’s complement all appropriate options when applications that are reviewing.
Some majors do like to see preparation and fit for major. For instance, students deciding on business needs four years of strong high college mathematics. Engineering and science applicants need four years of strong science and math. This doesn’t make admission to these majors any harder or easier for a student that is particular it just implies that we are searching for additional methods a pupil are going to be a complement their used major. The six visual and performing art schools are in search of musicians that are willing and desperate to expand their existing talents. The quantity of applicants of these art programs along with the subjective review procedure may make admission to the art programs competitive, but it wouldn’t be any easier for a student to get involved with an art system at a later time if they originally had been admitted to USC as another major.
I think the good explanation why this discussion even occurs is really because students really would like to get into USC and will do whatever it takes to increase their possibilities. My advice is to the major that interests you. It will permit you to answer our questions with passion and excitement, which will surely help us determine your fit for your major and for USC.
